Review of Victus Study Skills System

Study skills are something that I admit I often forget to include in our plans. Ok, when I say often, I mean we have never done a formal class on them. When I was offered a chance to review the Victus Study Skills System I saw it as a wonderful opportunity for all of us! I received all of the levels, however we focused on Level 2 Elementary (2/3-4/5) and Level 3 (5/6-10/11).

Ready to Dive in

I honestly wasn’t sure what to expect from this program. I know study skills are important but I have never known exactly how to make them into a class. My study skill instruction usually composed of coaching my children through a project or testing preparation. I was impressed with how much Victus Study Skills System provided to me. We received all four levels (Primary, Elementary, Level 3 and Level 4/College) in addition to a substantial student planner.

As we are already more than half way through the year, I did not delve into using the planner, however it is beautifully laid out. I plan to incorporate it into next year’s planning for my high schooler. So, if you are looking for a practical and easy to use planner for your upper level study, I do recommend the Victus Study Skill System planner.

Spanning All the Ages

I thoroughly appreciate when all of my children can work together. With such wide age ranges, it is sometimes difficult to work that out. However, Victus Study Skill System allows for everyone from the youngest student through high school to complete the program together. The workbooks follow the same sequence with just progressively detailed work. I chose not to have my younger son participate because we practice gentle schooling for the little ones so many of the questions about how he does his work we not applicable at this time. However, I look forward to going through the program with him when he is ready.

My children enjoyed the lessons and they were eye opening for all of us. The self assesment of learning styles was particularly intriguing to them. At first, they were not so enthusiatic about working down the lists, I must admit. However, tallying up their score and then reading about study strategies that could help really caught their attention. That is the exercise that sold them on this program. Thankfully, it was one of the first exercises in the program.

Praise for Victus Study Skills System

I think it was good for us to sit down and formulate procedures for studying. I have always tried to let the children learn as they learn best. We have set curriculum, that I build according to their stregths and needs, but let them design their day and work how they are most comfortable. Despite working hard to understand their learning needs, the learning style assessment and exploring how they study best was eye opening for me as well.

I appreciated that each lesson ended with an action plan. It wasn’t just worksheets to get through, there was a purpose and they walked away from the lesson with a list of how to apply what they had learned. The lessons are well structured but open ended for individual growth. This could truly be used with any child in any educational setting.

Our experinece with the Victus Study Skill System was thoroughly positive and I am eager to explore their other products. In short, manageble lessons over a week’s time, this program created lasting effects for our homeschool. I highly recommend it for every homeschool!
